Imagine this…
You meet a man who tells you he’s never met anyone like you before. Where have you been all his life? You’re incredible.
He wants to see you again immediately. You do a little happy dance as soon as you get home. You can’t stop smiling. This is so exciting!
Your phone pings. It’s him, thanking you for a great night. He’s so eager he can’t help himself. He calls and texts you constantly. He’s told all his friends about you.
It’s refreshing. You’ve been on too many dates where the guy seemed bored or passive. It boosts your spirits to be so utterly adored. You feel special, and that’s not a feeling you usually get with dating.
By the third date, he’s talking about marriage. He can just imagine what your kids would be like. He’s got big plans for your life together. He wants you to move in so he doesn’t have to spend another day without you.
Are you finally starring in your own romantic movie?
Or are you being love bombed?
You’re The Star
When someone makes us feel special, appreciated, and chosen, we can’t help but feel over the moon.
It just feels so good.
If you’ve been lonely for a while and you’ve missed having love in your life, you’re especially susceptible to a man who plays out your romantic fantasies.
He says all the beautiful things you’ve been wishing someone would say to you.
He wants a future with you from the moment he laid eyes on you. Even if you don’t feel a spark quite yet, he does. He thinks it’s destiny.
Your friends aren’t as enthusiastic as you expected them to be.
“That’s awfully fast, isn’t it?” one of them says.
It seems like they don’t want you to be happy. They don’t think you’re the type of person a man could fall head-over-heels for. But they’re wrong.
This is your love story, and you’re going to enjoy every minute of it.
Why’s He Doing It?
When a man comes on too strong too fast, there could be two reasons why:
- He’s infatuated with you, or
- He wants you to become infatuated with him.
Of course you’re hoping it’s the first reason. You want him to be infatuated with you. It goes to show how irresistible you are!
But that’s not necessarily a good thing, and here’s why…
Falling for someone when you barely know them usually means you’ve fallen in love with your idea of them.
He has an idea in his mind of the ideal woman, and he’s decided you match it.
When a man puts you on a pedestal, you don’t have much space to move up there. You’re under pressure not to slip off.
You don’t want to disappoint him, but how can you avoid it? You’re no dream. You’re you.
And if he spends enough time with you, he’ll figure this out.
A good man can survive this realization, but some men feel betrayed. They thought you were the perfect woman, then they found out you weren’t. (Never mind that you didn’t claim to be perfect in the first place!)
So take it with a grain of salt if a man tells you you’re “the one” after very little time with you.
And make that a heaping teaspoon of salt if the second reason is true…
He Knows What Women Want
He may be coming on too strong too fast because he’s infatuated with you.
Or he may simply be a man who knows what women respond best to.
Men know that there are certain phrases women fall for.
When a man tells a woman he’s never felt this way about anyone before, she tends to swoon.
When a man tells a woman he wants to be the kind of man she deserves, she tends to swoon.
When a man tells a woman that he feels so safe with her, like he can tell her anything, she tends to swoon.
Those phrases hit because they’re romantic.
Of course you want to hear a man say beautiful things like that to you.
But do you want to hear them so soon?
When a man uses those phrases on you, you can end up believing you have more of a connection than you do. He’s being strategic, while you’re risking a broken heart.
The moral of the story?
Slow it down. There’s no need to rush.
Love is a marathon, not a sprint.
Tell him, “I love how much you’re into me, but I’m a fan of the slow burn. Let’s savor this, shall we? If he’s just as excited about you in 6 months, then your love story is off to a great start.
