I am so glad I consulted you! I sent the text and immediately felt such a sense of relief! I definitely feel much better about how things ended even though he was the one that called quits first. I have been doing a soul-searching and have come to realize that, to be honest, I was not happy in the relationship towards the end either but I just didn’t have the courage to end it. So, I guess indirectly I am grateful that he did it for me! Will take this as a lesson learned and watch out for emotionally unavailable men as I continue to date.

He sent me a response saying, “I wish you the best too. I really admire you as a mother and a person. Hope everything turns out as you hope.”

Dear Heidi,

Thank you so much for your response! I think that’s a great idea and I like the suggested text. I was wondering about how I get my closure and wasn’t sure how to go about it. I like how it frames it as us approaching life differently – not blaming, playing victim or being spiteful. A classy way to go out! 🙂
